Optimising inventory workflows

MoveMan

Creating an item.

Context

Throughout the MoveMan product suite, users are required to create item profiles, and update them should there be any changes to them throughout the client's inventory lifecycle.

I was tasked with designing a more efficient experience that is better suited to the users' day-to-day operational workflows.

Problem

The previous item creation forms lacked a consistent structure, relying on unorganised input fields with poor spacing, limited visual hierarchy and little distinction between different sections or input states. This made it difficult for users to understand what information was required, where they were in the process and even if their inputs had been completed correctly.

The absence of clear visual cues and intuitive interactions created unnecessary friction, making routine inventory tasks more time-consuming than they needed to be.

Before: an unstructured form, and lists with poor hierarchy.

After: a more intuitive form, and a clearer list.

Solution

The redesign focused on creating a more streamlined item creation experience, replacing unstructured forms with a standardised drill-down approach. Improved spacing, clearer visual hierarchy and more intuitive controls helped users navigate each stage of the process more naturally, reducing cognitive-load and making day-to-day inventory management frictionless.

If user's want to forgo manually documenting item details, the Inventory AI assistant can capture them by reviewing images taken by the user.

I also introduced a more visual approach to item identification and navigation. By incorporating imagery throughout the workflow, users can quickly recognise and confirm the items they are working with before needing to interpret detailed descriptions, creating a more intuitive way to identify and manage items.

Clear visual cues throughout the process.

Impact

The new form now provides a standardised item creation experience across the wider product suite, replacing the inconsistent, product-specific forms used previously. It establishes a consistent set of interaction patterns, layouts and input controls, allowing users to follow a familiar process regardless of which application they were working in.

By removing the need to learn multiple methods of completing the same task, the redesign improved consistency and reduced friction across the the product suite.
