DESCRIPTION

Design of a Catawiki item page, and payment process.

CONTEXT

Catawiki is an online auction site with a wide variety of items that users can bid on. With so much on offer, it is important that the design does not overwhelm the user with too much information. The current visual design feels overloaded with differing typography and containers for content.

OBJECTIVE

  • To create a visual design that keeps the auction item in focus.

  • Maintain the Catawiki branding.

PROBLEM

Catawiki provides a trusted, curated online marketplace for buying and selling rare and collectible items. By specialising in niche categories and offering expert verification, it serves a growing community of collectors and enthusiasts looking for unique items.

The user experience should reflect the quality of the product on offer. By minimising the design system, the product and information is then put completely at the forefront for the user.

SOLUTION

I found the key to implementing a design system that allows the item to visually take centre stage, was to emphasise it, it's name, and it's value.

Where a content has been stripped away to put less weight on the cognitive load of the user - I have replaced it with micro interactions and animations for engagement - animations to the navigation bar, and having a sticky placement for the bidding information - for phone, a congratulatory message!
